I'm currently using a 1w NRG TX through a tuned dipole, the signal is not getting out too far as my house is in a terrible location for the dipole.

At the moment I'm using a Veronica limiter/compressor, it sounds great and I've no messing about to do as it was setup for me by another station.

I'm planning to broadcast pre recorded material very soon as this will allow me to use my battery powered Broadcast Warehouse TX with the dipole up nice and high. 

The only problem here is I don't want to leave too much equipment up a tree incase somebody decides to take it home with them, I can afford to lose a 1w PLL & dipole but I only have the one limiter/compressor so really don't want to lose that.

I have taken a look at Adobe Audition and found it has a broadcast limiter effect/setting, the thing is I'm not sure what level (dB) I want to set it to.  Any advice you guys have to offer would be great thanks.

Won't work. Your levels won't be calibrated anywhere through the audio chain, so you'd have no idea what you'd need to set the dB level to in order to prevent anything over 100% modulation - without the use of a modulation monitor in order to see what the output is like.

Plus, software limiting is generally never fast enough to catch the peaks which cause most of your overmod.

When you say 'nice and high' - just how high up this tree do you plan to go?

You could have the TX at the top, and run +12v up a twisted pair along with the audio, or composite.

How far away is the tree from your dwelling? You could just run a good coax up the tree to the antenna - and use a slightly higher powered TX to account for the extra loss in the coax.
