Hi. im just here to find out information before i start my station up...

Apart from paying royalties, can i load a CD into my computer and broadcast it from there? Or can I illegally download them and pay royalties and broadcast?

It's a bit of a grey area, but the usual situation is once you've bought a CD, you can load it on to your server and play out from there. You've paid for the disc, you are paying royalties to broadcast the song - the artist is certainly not losing.

As for downloading illegally, it's not something that a good broadcaster would consider (or admit to) doing.

As I see it, a download which is then being covered by paying royalties to  broadcast is not an illegal download, as it would be if it was just being listened to by the end user.
However, that's only personal opinion.
